A baby was strapped to my back while another crawled around in the playpen. I spent 12 hours days for months sanding and stripping wallpaper while carrying one kid. Ha! It was all falling in place, yet we were nowhere near done. To complete this task I had planned to shell out a substantial amount of money and time looking for my dream house. To keep my budget sound, I travelled with my 3 boys looking for bargains at estate sales. Our routine was to walk around auctions and garage sales on the weekend and purchase a range of pieces old and newly made. I'd spend my workdays on the drive either painting or sanding. It looked a bit similar to this... Here is where my love for restoring antique furniture started. I continued to restore furniture, even after having completed the renovation of our home. I also had a booth at the market where I sold objects. I was able to outgrow the market because I had many more pieces than I was able to use. There were open houses at my house that saw more than 1 000 visitors came through on one weekend, and buy anything they saw in the first floor. Growing Days was founded in my house. Apart from my successful business, I also had the pleasure of growing our family. In a way, I had found the perfect balance between being a mum as well as starting my own venture. Growing Days just fit. Nora joined us in 2013 and became our fourth baby. This was an excellent direction for my company, but I also needed an escape. I took some time away from furniture that was vintage to enjoy the time I needed with my kids. It was just what I required. After a while, off the phone started to ring. I was getting calls from people seeking help for their interior decorating and home remodeling. They had mainly visited my house at the open houses to purchase furniture. As I went along, I added clients in a series of. But it wasn't that long before I was managing several clients, and had a profitable home improvement business. If you'd told me that my venture would end up being the basis for a DIY Network show, I likely would have been astonished. As I reflect back, it still makes me smile.
